I just stumbled on this collaborative space that was created to celebrate the many Apps and Extensions made by developers which serve the accessibility needs of individuals with disabilities. The site goes on to explain, “To this end, we have developed this searchable resource to locate tools that serve the particular challenges anyone might face while working in Chrome. On the right, you will find more information about this site, including definitions of terms and more information about the Chrome browser and assistive technology.”

Well, I hadn’t seen it and I do like it! The site invites users to “Easily turn Google Spreadsheets into Flashcards and Other Cool Stuff.” And it works well – just download the template and follow the instructions. Be sure to check out the other gadgets too – like the trivia game that looks like a gameshow teachers love to emulate in the classroom…

Blogger John McGowan wrote a script that will create a form from a highlighted range of questions that you create on a Google spreadsheet. He is especially proud of the feature that creates multiple choice questions from option in the sheet. Visit the page, make a copy for yourself and follow the instructions on this page to try it out for yourself!

Now, if your students are using Google Apps, this article makes it even easier. This article from Education Technology and Mobile Learning tells you how to do it.

https://theteacherlist.ca/2014/10/google-drive-folder-size/#commentsThu, 02 Oct 2014 14:34:59 +0000https://theteacherlist.ca/?p=4219For those districts using Google Apps, there is a limited amount of space available to hold your non-Google assets. Files like photos, pdfs and video count towards your quota while files like Google Docs, Sheets and Presentations do not count. When things start to get tight, it can be difficult to find the bulky elements – this site will help with that. Once connected to your Drive, it will analyze the folder contents and give you a size indication. You can then start moving the larger files to local storage or to other cloud solutions.

There are a lot of questions about how to use the many features, so we’ve been “Asking The Google” and found this good site. Google Trainer, Tony Amsler, offers a range of tips for beginners and experts alike, including his very helpful articles in the “Good to Know” section.

Thanks for coming back and if you signed up over the summer, I hope you’ll enjoy the coming year of one-a-day useful, free sites. The first one of this season is a no-brainer. Last week, Google finally announced the ability to create and customize themes for your Google Forms. Now, in addition to the high-end function of your form, you get to make it look — spiffy!

Students connect their note-taking to their GDrives. The notes are synchronized to the timeline of the video and then synched to GDrive for easy access and sharing. There are a few features that they could add like real-time collaboration and the option to save as a Google Doc but it’s a great start.

https://theteacherlist.ca/2014/01/google-n-gram-viewer/#commentsFri, 31 Jan 2014 15:47:22 +0000https://theteacherlist.ca/?p=3984N-grams are graphs that are derived from collections of text, showing how the frequency of a word or phrase changes over time. Google’s N-Gram Viewer was implemented last fall. Or at least, that’s when I noticed it whenever I typed “Define:” into the omnisearch bar – there was a graph showing how the use of the word I looked up had changed over the years. Drawing on the more than 5 million books that Google has digitized, you can enter phrases, words, names, etc into the Google NGV and explore the results.
